For 36-year-old Jennifer Thigpen, life couldn’t be better. Her career was on track. She was healthy. She had a loving husband and two beautiful children. Then seemingly out of nowhere, Jennifer received a shocking diagnosis: breast cancer. Listen as Jennifer shares her emotional journey from disappointment to discovery at how what seemed to be a loss ended up being her greatest gain.
Show Notes:
September 11 is recognized as a day of remembrance and reflection in this nation. It is also the day 36-year-old Jennifer Thigpen found out she had breast cancer. The heartbreaking diagnosis occurred at a time when many women deflect the possibility of even having breast cancer. Says Jennifer: “Cancer was not even on my radar. A lot of women think, ‘I’ll worry about that when I turn 40.’”
While undergoing treatment, Jennifer recalls being confronted with anger and disappointment: “How could you let this happen to me, God? I love, I serve you, I honor you.” However, with guidance from her care pastor, she soon began to see her situation as a means to be transparent—with God, with herself, with others—about living with cancer and how she would fulfill her God-given destiny.
“There’s a new normal, and you have a sense of responsibility to help someone through this journey. My heart longs to help other people get through this process, and show them that you can make it, you can do this.”
