Featuring: Gordon Robertson

Published: July 21, 2018

The hosts of Health, Hope & Inspiration sit down with Gordon Robertson, host of the The 700 Club and CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network, for a special two-part series discussing ways the relationship between the faith community and the medical community can be strengthened and how people of faith can and should respond when faced with sickness. Robertson maintains that these relationships need to be built on a solid foundation of not only friendship and availability, but a shared faith journey with a common destination.

Show Notes:

In this special two-part episode, the hosts of Health, Hope and Inspiration sit down with Gordon Robertson, CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network, and son of Christian television pioneer Pat Robertson, to discuss the state of the relationship between faith and medicine, and ways to better align the idea of spiritual care and medical care together.

Robertson maintains that training ministers to address the deeper needs of the individual facing illness is essential: “Without that training, if you you’ve never walked with someone who has cancer, and walked the family through that treatment process, it can be overwhelming. You don’t learn that in seminary. Get as much training as you can because in this treatment process, there’s going to be some curveballs thrown your way, and how do you respond?”

And while Robertson believes there is always a place for prayer and healing services, he maintains that for cancer patients and their families, it’s a continuation of a long-term relationship of friendship, availability and ultimately, a fellowship with a common destination. “For me, it’s realizing we’re all on the journey. It’s helped me get the peace to know there is hope at the end of the day. Let’s start talking about heaven. And let’s look forward to ‘I get to be with Jesus.’”
