Rev. Percy McCray sits down with Ossie Mills, Vice President of Global Communications and Marketing at Oral Roberts University and Executive Director of Empowered21, to dialogue about the potentiality of prayer and medicine working together as a support for patients in a healthy and balanced way.

Show Notes:

Pastor Percy talks with Ossie Mills, Vice President of Global Communications and Marketing at Oral Roberts University and Executive Director of Empowered21, about the confluence of faith and medicine. Mills believes that in spite of what many medical professionals believe is exclusionary, God has provided both with the intent of them working in tandem. “I do believe that God is trying to say, ‘Y’all, I am here with the best of both worlds. I will bring you the best surgeon. I will bring you the best healing.’ And they can work together, hand-in-hand.” Mills references the praying hands monument at Oral Roberts University as an example: “One stands for prayer, and the other [hand] stands for medicine. And so together, that’s what God’s perfect plan is. And sometimes, as believers, we believe we got to pray for healing, or nothing.”

Mills believes the real struggle from a faith-based perspective is an all-or-nothing proposition around healing, which he says needs to be reworked. “God teaches us that His perfect will could be that in eternity, you are resurrected, and you’re healed, or you’re healed now. Healing does not necessarily mean you are completely absolved from the effects of sickness and disease. There may be other elements of things that God is healing and restoring—families, relationships. It doesn’t mean that God’s not involved in that process. We’re going to pray for the sick, and they’re going to recover. But maybe what God wants to do is bring along a medical solution to that problem.”
