Surrounding oneself with words that encourage and inspire hope potentially can support a healing environment during a cancer journey.
In this episode, host Rev. Percy McCray talks to Laurie Smith, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and was treated at CTCA® Chicago. Laurie shares her gregarious personality, passion, energy and hope that helped her while battling her disease.
Laurie, who was married just before receiving her diagnosis, reveals some of the challenges she faced during her treatment, including the unique way she navigated losing her hair.
“I think sometimes [a cancer journey] is just a season of growing,” she says. “I think it opens up a different door.” Laurie adds that her mantra has been to avoid “listening to negative people.”
Learn how Laurie has used her outgoing personality to spread love, joy and hope as a cancer fighter and encouraged others to do the same.
