Show Notes:
Nicolle Surratte, a single mom of two children, who received breast cancer care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) Philadelphia, shares with host Rev. Percy McCray the visceral impact of being told by phone she had breast cancer. She describes “how loud the silence was just in hearing the word cancer.” In this discussion, Nicolle admits to having a “nice cry,” but was reminded that when she was once on “separated street and divorce drive,” God “provided everything that I needed,” and that “He could handle my cancer diagnosis. I knew that there was purpose in my diagnosis,” Nicolle says. “It took me a couple of years to figure out what the purpose was, but I found it out.”
Quotes:
- “Sometimes people think that when you have cancer, that’s all you have is cancer. Well, no, you have life and all of its interruptions with which to deal.”
- “You know, people don’t understand when you come home and you take off that wig and you’ve got a visual reminder or you take off your clothes and you see the scars: more visual reminders.”
