The difference it makes when you know God’s standing behind you.
Show Notes:
Len “Archie” Archer has a conversation with Rev. Percy McCray about his life as a firefighter, first responder and fire investigator who worked with arson canine dogs. Now retired, Archie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018 and was treating at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) Philadelphia at the time of his interview.
Archie says he learned of his cancer after having a colonoscopy. “It was like a movie,” he says. “[My wife and I] just held each other and were trying to make sure this was what I really heard.”
“I had pretty much an immediate peace within me because I did have a one-on-one relationship with Christ,” he adds. “I don’t have to be afraid of the grave. I knew that I was more afraid for my wife. I wanted to prepare my wife for the future without me.”
Archie says he is anchored in the belief that God has his back and that he is living the dream by keeping his heart open. His prayer is “[God,] help me live well, but more importantly, help me die well; prepare my soul to enter the kingdom.”
“I pray for my phone to ring and somebody ask advice, not that I’m a Dr. Phil or anything, but I do have a certain perspective,” Archie says. “Being a cancer survivor and having a very close relationship with my Lord. I think that this is what God wants me to do now.”
