One can choose not to stay in darkness when properly motivated.
Show Notes:
David Gonzales, who began treatment for multiple myeloma in 2018 at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Phoenix, shares with host Rev. Percy McCray how he initially struggled to get started with medical care. With the support and encouragement of his wife, he shifted his thinking and his overall focus and accepted his need to get treatment.
David realized that he had the power to choose not to slide into a mental or emotional “dark world” regarding his journey. “I forced myself to get out of bed and to know that I’m going to beat this,” he says. “And sure enough, when all was done, surgery was all completed. I got out of the hospital, me and my wife got together, and we said, ‘You know what, honey, let’s go for a walk.’ And we were walking two miles a day nonstop.”
David tells Rev. McCray about the overall approach to his journey, “I know that you have to have a positive mind. Whatever you’re putting in your mind will determine how you’re going to live your life.”
Quotes:
- “It [being diagnosed with cancer] couldn’t possibly happen to me.”
- “I just couldn’t believe it. I was stunned.”
- “It almost put me in a dark world.”
- “Two things that keep me hopeful is having a strong faith in the Lord, and to know that I’m just not living for myself…”
