Show Notes:

Joining Rev. Percy McCray is Jennifer Cargile, a speech pathologist for 13 years and supervisor of the oncology rehabilitation department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Atlanta.

Jennifer grew up in a family with a long history in the pharmacy profession, but felt her God-given calling was in speech pathology. She was drawn to it after a childhood babysitter invited her to observe a therapy session with an autistic child, whom she helped to make her first sound. “Oh my gosh, how awesome, that you’re able to help a child or an adult be able to speak and communicate and how important that is,” she tells Rev. McCray. “I really felt like the Lord was calling me to be a speech pathologist. And so, I went to college for that.”

Jennifer also discusses the different types of rehabilitation disciplines that cancer patients may need to access during or after their treatments.

When asked if her job is hard, Jennifer says she wants everyone to know: “Actually it’s not! The Lord has allowed me to be a part of these people’s lives at this moment to be able to pour into them and to bring them hope, and for them to realize that there are things they can do to help themselves. And so, I just have counted it as an honor to be able to work here [at CTCA and with the cancer community].”

Quotes:

  • “I have people, patients that I met and eight years later, they still come to see me, and I know about their grandchildren, and I know about everything that’s going on.”
  • “It would be very hard for me to do this job if I didn’t have my faith in the Lord, but instead I found it to be encouraging, and to see the Lord work in people’s lives is absolutely just amazing.”
