I have cancer and I need a plan.
Show Notes:
Tammy Caspersen, a working mother of two, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer three months into the pandemic in May 2020, stops by to chat with Rev. Percy McCray. At the time of her interview, Tammy was receiving medical care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Atlanta.
Tammy recalls the day she received the news that she has cancer. “I was called by my doctor and was called into his office, and he sat and held my hand and told me the diagnosis,” she says.
After crying together with her physician during that conversation, Tammy said, “My brain went to, let’s get busy, let’s make a plan. My mind went to work mode.”
Tammy, whose mother and younger sister also were diagnosed with cancer, was encouraged to seek a second opinion before choosing her treatment options.
Tammy says she remains hopeful about her journey. “It isn’t just about me,” she says. “It’s about lives being changed forever. So, my hope is not just in Jesus, but my hope is what He’s going to do through me.”
Quotes:

- “And it is not only your care team becoming your team and your support, the patients become your care team, your support and your cheerleaders.”
- “I chose to take more of a positive approach.”
