I emotionally ate after being told I had cancer.
Show Notes:
Five-year breast cancer survivor Yolanda Perry joins host Rev. Percy McCray to discuss her cancer journey. Diagnosed in August 2016, Yolanda underwent radiation and surgery and had no evidence of disease at the time of this recording. She talks about the unusual way she received her cancer diagnosis.
“I was actually in my doctor’s office,” she says, “and she started out saying, ‘I have good news and bad news, which one do you want first?’”
Yolanda discusses how she initially considered only alternative natural pathways for her cancer treatment before deciding to pursue conventional medical care instead.
Push play now and listen to the author of the book Save the Girls, who has also created her own cancer support app to empower and encourage other women battling the disease.
Quotes:
- “I left the doctor’s office, I went back to work, and I shared it [cancer diagnosis] with my supervisor. And the first thing she said to me was, ‘Please tell your children, because my mother did not tell me.’”
- “I’m here to encourage women all over the world to conduct a monthly self-exam.”
- “If I did not schedule that appointment [mammogram], who knows a whole year having cancer, what stage it could have been. I’m so grateful that I made the decision to attend my mammogram.”
