Please take advantage of seeking counseling during cancer treatment.
Show Notes:
In speaking with cancer patient Aleta Sayas, I was immediately struck by her determination to fight her cancer, but at the same time how willing she was to be vulnerable and transparent about the challenges of her cancer journey. I was deeply moved by her candor in discussing the importance of mental and emotional supportive care services.
“Yes, I’ve already declared healing,” she says. “But you’re still dealing with that emotional and mental aspect of the diagnosis itself.
“I took advantage of both of them [psychological and emotional support] because I need to try to maneuver this.”
In this conversation we also cover additional topics, but none more important than being one’s own advocate during a cancer journey.
Listen now to hear the oldest of twin sisters who are battling cancer together, who wished her sister did not have to go through this battle with her.
Quotes:
- “It [mental and emotional challenges] doesn’t go away. This is going to be a part of me for the rest of my life.”
- “We have to do our research. I can’t express that enough. We have to educate ourselves.”
